FIELD ARCHERY TOURNAMENTS

FREE for Members

The 28-target Field Archery course is set up at regulation shooting distances of 20 feet to 80 yards as sanctioned by the National Field Archery Association. Tournaments are held on scheduled Sundays through the warmer months, but members can shoot for practice at any other time. Normally one to four arrows are shot at each target. A standardized scoring system is used at the tournaments and awards are given for archers of varying abilities.

 

Field Archery Tournaments at the Suffolk Archers range are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on the Sundays listed on the calendar and event page.

 

The Club's Field Archery Championship consisting of  14 Field, 14 Hunter and 14 Animals.

This 3D tournament is open to the public as well as to all members of Suffolk Archers, and may be shot with traditional or compound bows.

All competitive shooters will be classified and assigned by shooting groups.

All groups will be a minimum of 2 and a max of 4 shooters

Food and beverages will be available.

THE KNOCK-A-BLOCK STUMP SHOOT

• Judo type points ARE REQUIRED FOR SAFETY with all bows. Other types of points may disqualify you from the tournament! Check with officials before the shoot begins!

• NO SEPARATE CLASS for children or women.

• These are "match play" tournaments.

• Tournament is limited to 64 Archers

Although we have never had to turn anyone away, please be advised that we must not exceed 64 Archers. Registration will be on a "first come, first served" basis.

THE LONG ISLAND TRADITIONAL

This tournament is open to the public as well as to all members of

Suffolk Archers, but is limited to archers using only traditional equipment (recurves or long bows).

 

• 8:00 am Registration and Practice Opens

• 9:00 am Shoot Begins

• No sights • No sight marks on bows • No stabilizers • No releases (triggers)

• Longbow Class: Laminated and self longbows, bush and flat bows.

• Strings to touch limbs ONLY at nocks in strung position. Wood arrows only.

• Recurve Class: All Recurves and any Traditional Bow that does not meet

• ALL longbow requirements will shoot in this classification.

• Non-wood arrows and "stick-on" arrow rests are acceptable.

• Field points only

• Classes: Adult: 13 and older • Youth: 7 thru 12 • PeeWee: thru 6 years.

• NO SEPARATE CLASS for women

• Youth Class: Under 13. All rules and bow classifications apply.

• Food and beverages will be available.

THE HUNTER 3D SHOOT

RACCOON SHOOT (Dusk into Night)

This tournament is open to the public as well as to all members of

Suffolk Archers, and may be shot with traditional or compound bows.

MAXIMUM SAFETY IS ACHIEVED VIA EXTENSIVE USE OF

SUPPLIED MULTI-COLORED LIGHT STICKS AND LIGHT RINGS.

• Dusk:  Registration and Practice opens.

• Dark: Shoot begins.

TARGETS are life-size paper raccoons with reflective spots in their eyes. The targets are fastened to large target buts and will be placed at many different angles so the shooter must guess the position of the body based upon seeing only the reflective eyes.

 

RULES: Identifying light markers are supplied by Suffolk Archers FREE.

1. Everyone on the range MUST wear 2 light rings, 1 in front and 1 in back, of a unique color assigned at event.  

2. Walk only on unique-color light-marked trails.  

3. Shoot 2 arrows at each target from each unique-color 3-ring light-marked shooting point.  

4. Shoot only at target butts marked by unique-color light rings.  

5. Only 2-AA cell STANDARD ORIGINAL Mini MagLite flashlights or other brand with equivalent 5.3 lumens maximum allowed — nothing brighter.

6. Only 1 flashlight beam directed towards target at any time.  A 2nd flash-light can be used to assist shooter with nocking arrow and to illuminate sight pins...work with a buddy.  

7. Score ZERO for head shots within the red ring and for all shots outside the 5 ring.  

 

• All competitive shooters will be classified and assigned shooting groups.

• All groups will be a minimum of 3 and a max of 5 shooters.

• No binoculars,. No  range finders.

• Food and beverages will be available.

HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Open to all

Whether you are new to the sport or have experience there is always something new to learn. This is truly a great opportunity for all to learn, share and help your fellow archer. Exposition stations are setup along the course, each one showing a different aspect of hunting.  From tree stand safety, to calling, and camouflage.

PANCAKE (Liars & Braggers) BREAKFAST

Start the year off with friends, pancakes and coffee talking about your harvest, misses, and the ones that got away.

3D SNOW FLAKE LEAGUE

This tournament is open to Members Only. The league runs 7 weeks, January to March, weather permitting. Each weekly round comprises 15 3D targets for a total of 300 available points. Your top 3 rounds are counted towards league scoring. Men's, Women's and Junior's classes for both Compound and Traditional style bows. No binoculars or range finders allowed.

 

A bagel and coffee breakfast is available starting at 8:00

The shoot starts when you are ready to head out, any time between 8:00 & 10:00

Each week a guest chef prepares a hot lunch, service starting at approximately 11:45.

We celebrate the end of the season with a big BBQ.

3D SHOOTS

These shoots are open to Members Only. The shoots are held on scheduled Sundays from April through August, but members can shoot for practice at any other time. Each weekly round comprises 14 3D targets for a total of 280 available points. Your top 3 rounds are counted towards league scoring. Binoculars and range finders are allowed. A bagel and coffee breakfast is available starting at 8:00. The shoot starts when you are ready to head out, any time between 8:00 & 10:00.

 

THE AMERICAN ROUND

1:30 to 6:00 pm

The American round consists of 90 arrows for record; 30 each at 60, 50 and 40 yards, in that order. Each distance will be shot in five ends of six arrows each. There will be two optional practice ends, one at 40 yards and one at 60 yards in that order, also consisting of six arrows each.

 

FITA type scoring will be used. 10, 9, 8, 7, etc on the 122 CM target for recurve shooters and on the 80 CM target for compounds.

 

AERIAL DISC

Members Only

10:00 am to 12:00 pm

This Skeet style shoot will take place in the flied. Using the Laporte Disc thrower archers will attempt to hit a foam disc out of the air.

Club supplied Flu-Flu arrows must be used.

 

DART LEAGUE

Members Only

Starts 7:00 PM

Tournaments are held on the practice range

Make no mistake, this is an archery shoot.  Using a large paper "dart board" target archers in teams of three will attempt to out shoot there competitors in a classic game of darts.

ANNUAL FAMILY DAY

A FREE event For Members and their Family

Come out and enjoy a day of fun and games and great food.  Check the June calendar for this years event. Starts at 9:00am.

A volunteer is needed to run this event.

 

SATURDAY EVENINGS AT THE LODGE (S.E.A.L)

From time to time, Suffolk Archers  will open the doors of the Lodge and invite all our members to come down and enjoy an evening of conversation and food with your fellow members in the "pot-luck" style dinner.   So whip up your favorite dish and come on down.  Sufolk Archery will provide the beverages and plates and utensills.  This is a great opportunity to meet fellow members and enjoy our beautiful lodge. ANNUAL WILD GAME DINNER

Come on down to the lodge for our annual wild game dinner.  This event is for members only and is free!  Bring a chafing dish of food to share with the other guests if you like.

2013 was our 1st annual game dinner and it was a tremendous success!  The food was delicious, there was music in the air and great conversation amongst the members.

 

 

CPR/AED CERTIFICATION CLASS

For the safety of our members and their families, every 2 years Suffolk Archers hosts a CPR/AED Certification class. Instructors from The American Heart Association provide 2 different sessions. 1 session is for people who are already certified and need it updated, and another for people who have not been trained yet. These classes are free to all primary club members. There is a fee for non-primary members. We encourage you all to participate.

BOARD MEETINGS

At the K of C Hicksville – Board Members and Persons Having Business with the Board –

Meetings start at 8 pm and are held on the second Wednesday of each month except for December which is held on the first Wednesday.

 

GENERAL MEETINGS

All Members are invited to attend.  Meetings start at 8pm and will be held at the Lodge on the thrid Wednesday of February, April, June, August, and October and the second Wednesday of December.

 

WORKDAYS

At the Range – Members Only – Start Time 8 am

On Work Days, range will be closed until 5pm for the safety of the work crew.

ST. ANTHONY'S HS ARCHERY CLUB

At the Range – St. Anthony's HS Archery Club Members Only – Start Time 3 pm.

These meeting will take place in the flied and/or practice range.

The field and shooting platform will be closed to Suffolk Archers Members until 5pm for the safety of the Archery Club.

A note about range closings:  We make every effort to complete the set-up for indicated events as early as possible on the day prior to each event. In certain cases the entire facility will be closed to those not particiating in the event. We apologize to our members for any inconvenience this causes but, as always, safety comes first at Suffolk Archers.
